This orchestrally focused composition pushed my then-computer – an iMac G5 – over the edge. Other than hardly being able to hear the music over the computers roaring fan, the breathless machine frequently stuttered to a halt midway through trying to stream gigabytes of instruments off of external HD's and in and out of its meagre early millenium allocation of onboard RAM.
I'd pre-gathered a bunch of very high quality orchestral libraries and expressive sampled instruments for this production, but unfortunately didn't also upgrade my computer. At the outset, I was left with a choice: produce inferior music, or perservere.
Perservering, the unrelenting random interruptions made work on the production arduous and unforgiving, to the point a previously-unreleased track I'll include below, was directly inspired by my accumulated left-over tensions.
I recorded the following electric guitar chaos building to order, entitled After Al Manhal, in an absolute blitz right after its parent's completion. I used a bare minimum instruments and didn't labour over it.
It was very cathartic, for me at least...
